A battling display by Letterkenny Rovers has seen them through to the FAI Cup second round.
Eamon McConigley’s side scored the winner in the 89th minute after a tense battle with Dublin outfit Portmarnock to win 2-1.
Christy Conaghan put the home side ahead in the 8th minute but Portmarnock levelled shortly afterwards when Ross Moran converted a penalty.
Rovers began to get on top in the second half but the Dublin still threatened up front.
Paul McVeigh was a thorn in the side of Portmarnock as was Darren McElwaine.
Indeed McElwaine struck the crossbar while Conaghan also came close.
McVeigh was somewhat lucky to get a controversial free on the edge of the area as the clock headed towards extra time.
But Terence Shiels, who put in a testing display at left back, slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the visitor’s net when many were expecting the ball to go over the wall.
It was cruel on the Dublin side but the rub of the green appears to be with Rovers.
They now go into the draw for the second round with the League of Ireland teams.
