A TRAINEE chef on theft charges has been ordered to observe a curfew as part of his bail conditions.
Enda McGowan, who is 30 and from Dromore, Letterkenny, appeared at the town’s District Court on two counts of theft and trespass.
It was alleged he stole money from a car in parked at Orchard Grove, Letterkenny on Saturday.
He also faced a trespass charge after he was arrested outside a house in the town at 3.20am.
Inspector Michael Harrison said gardaí were not opposing bail as long as strict conditions were imposed.
The inspector said further charges may be pending in the case.
Judge Paul Kelly ordered McGowan to sign on at Letterkenny garda stations on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The judge also ordered that McGowan observe a curfew from 9pm until 7am each day.
However McGowan told the judge that he is training to be a chef at college in Derry and is due to go on work experience at a restaurant in the city.
He asked for the curfew to begin at midnight.
“I won’t be out of work until 11pm,” said McGowan.
Judge Kelly agreed to the request but ordered McGowan to stay away the area where the alleged thefts took place and to be available to speak to gardaí by mobile phone at all times.
The case was adjourned until June 20.
