An official announcement due tomorrow was leaked this morning – with well-paid customer care centre jobs heading for the Údarás facility in the area.
It’s understood Minister Joe McHugh, the junior gaeltacht minister, personally flew to Manchester last autumn with Údarás officials in a bid the land the jobs deal.
Recruitment to the positions will get underway next month with the first positions in place by July.
A spokesperson for Údarás na Gaeltachta said: “I can confirm there will be a major jobs announcement this week.
“We have been in discussions with a company in Manchester over recent months about them establishing a presence at the Gaoth Dobhair Business Park.”
The move will be a major boost for the area which has been ravaged by unemployment and emigration in recent years.
It’s understood the initial 125 jobs could be boosted further in 2017.
The move follows the announcement of ten new jobs in Burtonport in a fish canning factory.
