It’s a disease that hits home all too forcibly among so many families and one that has ripped the heart and soul out of so many communities.
But for cancer sufferers and survivors there is hope and the special conference organised by the Donegal Relay for Life today (SAT) in Letterkenny will highlight that hope through a range of topics and workshops.
Awareness and education form a key role in the fight against cancer and the conference has as its catchline ‘living well” with the disease and beyond.
A number of expert speakers have been lined up to address the attendance in the Mount Errigal Hotel with topics to be covered embracing updates on radiotherapy treatment at Alnagelvin Hospital, advances in cancer research, cancers in young adults, advances in mouth, head and neck cancer, and a holistic approach to well-being.
Speakers include Una Cardin, Dr. Rob O’Connor, Dr. Laura Coffey, Dr. Alexia Bertuzzi, Nikki Bradley and Dr. Leah Finan who is a native of Letterkenny.
Relay for Life Donegal is an organisation that supports cancer survivors and their caregivers and they will be represented at the conference.
It gets underway at 10.a.m. and concludes at 4.p.m.
For those who have been affected by cancer or currently are, it’s an event that will help draw inspiration but for the community at large it will offer vital insights into the disease and how it can be approached.
Come along and find out more on the day. The event is free and includes lunch.
