Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD has welcomed the scheduling of a debate on Insurance Costs in the Dáil next Wednesday.
It follows massive price hikes for Donegal motorists – and around the country.
Deputy Doherty said: “It is clear to anybody that the dramatic increases in the cost of motor insurance are creating huge problems, with our young and rural communities worst affected. I look forward to putting forward proposals Sinn Féin have been working on to alleviate this crisis as soon as possible.
“A deeper look at the business model underpinning the insurance industry in Ireland is required too though. Correspondence I have received from the Central Bank points to a long term unsustainable way of doing business as representing the real reason behind the jumps in premiums.
“I hope the debate next week produces some positive ideas and consensus as to how this urgent issue can be tackled.”
