The Family Resource Centre will this year again host ASIST training on Wednesday 4th & Thursday 5th May. ASIST is suitable for all kinds of caregivers-volunteers, people responding to family, friends and co-workers and professionals. The 2-day workshop trains participants to reduce the immediate risk of suicide and increase the support for a person at risk. It provides opportunities to learn what a person at risk may need from others in order to keep safe and get more help. This is an updated ASIST and those who have completed the training 2 or more years ago are encouraged to attend again. Another date for your diary
Raphoe Annual 5k road race hosted by Raphoe Family Resource Centre in association with Lifford/Strabane A.C. will this year take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday 5th July. Raphoe 5k is one of the races in Donegal Athletics Board Grand Prix Programme. Last year’s race which was kindly sponsored by Coyle’s Centra Raphoe was won by Ivan Toner in a time of 16:35. The first woman home was Sarah Kivlehan in a time of 19:37.
Katharine Howard Foundation
Good News! For the 3rd year in succession the nine Family Resource Centres in Donegal have been awarded funding from the Katharine Howard Foundation to host activities for babies and toddlers. In previous years Raphoe Family Resource Centre would have organised activities such as Tiny Tunes, Messy Play, Paediatric First Aid, Sleep Hygiene and Baby Massage. Planning is now taking place for this year’s activities so please watch our Facebook Page for further details.
Statement of Guiding Principles for Fundraising

Drop-in Tuesdays
Drop-in Tuesdays have now commenced in the Family Resource Centre in the Volt House on Tuesdays from 10.30-11.30am. The Drop-in provides the opportunity for members of the community to call in for a cup of tea and a chat. Local and daily papers will be available so you can catch up on local, national and international news. The Drop-in is free so why not come along and join us?

Seniors Alert Scheme
The objective of the Seniors Alert Scheme is to encourage community support for vulnerable older people in our communities through the provision of personal monitored alarms to enable older persons of limited means to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.
Funding is available under the scheme towards the purchase of equipment by a registered organisation i.e. personal alarm and/or pendant. The associated monitoring and service charges must be paid by the participant.
A person will be eligible if he or she is:
• Aged 65 years or older; and
• Of limited means or resources; and
• Living alone, living with another person who meets the eligibility criteria; and
• Resides within geographical area of the relevant registered organisation; and
• Able to benefit from the equipment supplied; and
• Are prepared to maintain contact with the registered organisation.
Raphoe Family Resource Centre has now taken over the administration of the Scheme.

Raphoe Boxing Club
Raphoe’s Ulster Boxing Champions Liam Crawford and Liam McMonagle were at the National Schoolboy Championships in Dublin last week and both boxers lost out at the quarter-final stages on this their first visit to the Nation Boxing Stadium. Well done boys and keep up all the hard work.
On Sunday last the North West Zones Championships were staged in Dungloe and the Raphoe Club was represented by Oran Devine and Thomas Doherty. Oran lost out in the final to Carndonagh’s Oisin Devlin and Thomas made it through to next week’s Ulster Finals in Carrickmore, Co. Tyrone. Well done to both boxers.

Whitecross Vintage Association – Ferguson World Record Re-Match 2016
Whitecross Vintage Association will hold the Ferguson World Re-Match in Carrigans, Co. Donegal from the 16th – 18th September 2016 on lands kindly made available by the Mc Erlean Family.
The Ferguson World Re-Match has 3 record Targets
To beat the 2014 record set at 726 tractors
To have the World’s largest Massy Ferguson Logo made with Ferguson tractors
To achieve the most number of Ferguson 135 tractors working at one time in one field.
Proceeds from the event will be shared by the following charities: Sean O’Hare Unit, Stroke & Medical Rehab Unit, Donegal Hospice, Ballytrim House, Raphoe, Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, Alzheimer’s Association, Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Foyle Hospice.
In this the 70th Anniversary of the TE20 Ferguson we are delighted to welcome Harry Ferguson’s Granddaughter, also in attendance will be the Harry Ferguson Memorial Band. Demonstrations will include motor accident rescue methods by a fire service, farm machinery safety and other services of interest.
The event will be covered by TV, press coverage and event DVD sales. Social events are planned for Friday Saturday and Sunday nights. For further information please contact whitecrossvintageassociation@hotmail.com
