BREAKING NEWS: A Donegal fisherman has been rescued from choppy waters this evening, after his boat overturned.
The incident occurred just off the shore of Cloughglass, near Burtonport this evening.
The Arranmore Lifeboat and speedboat dinghy were dispatched to the scene – and were assisted in the rescue operation by the Coast Guard Rescue 118 helicopter.
The combined efforts by all have been hailed as it was an extremely difficult rescue due to the heavy, heavy swells at that time.
It is believed the fisherman was in the water for 45 minutes and was treated for hypothermic shock.
He was rushed to Letterkenny General Hospital were his condition has been described as critical.
Local people have hailed the RNLI and Coast Guard team’s efforts.
The casualty was airlifted to Letterkenny Hospital.
