Now in its seventh year, the Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) Campus to Campus Charity Cycle takes place on Saturday 23 April.
The cycle will begin on the Killybegs Campus at 11 am and finish at the Letterkenny Campus, travelling via Ardara, Glenties and Fintown.
Having raised in excess of €35,000 for various charities over the past 6 years, the organising committee will fundraise this year on behalf of the Irish Kidney Association (Donegal Branch).
Maeve Carr, member of the organising committee, commented, “We are delighted to be fundraising on behalf of the Irish Kidney Association (Donegal Branch) in 2016. LYIT is a community, and within this community we connected with Kieran Murray, a 3rd year student in Business and Administration, who is also Treasurer of the Irish Kidney Association (Donegal Branch).
“Kieran, received his first transplant in 2000 at the age of 21, and he has battled with his condition for many years. In 2013, Kieran received his second kidney transplant after 13 months recovering from haemodialysis treatment. We recognise the dedication that Kieran has shown in his recovery, and the Irish Kidney Association was the ideal charity of choice in 2016.”
She further added, “This cycle is now in its 7th year, and each year we aim to offer something different to our participants. We now have two routes to take part in: one route that is 74km and the other, the new route, which is 32km. The second, shorter route from Fintown to Letterkenny is designed to attract novice and hobby cyclists, and we hope that the introduction of this second route will entice new participants.”
