BROADCASTER Ryan Tubridy vowed today to bring his popular RTE Radio One show to Buncrana following the tragedy there last month.
Tubridy was speaking on his show today as he asked people to make suggestions as to where his annual tour of Ireland should go.
He was asking for suggestions from listeners – and was bombarded with ideas from listeners.
However he said one decision had already been taken.
“Someone suggested that we should go to Buncrana after all that has happened there recently and I can tell you we are definitely going to Buncrana,” said Tubridy.
He said the suggestions were made after local man John Boy was the winner of the Late Late Show cash prize of €25,000 last Friday night. The announcement came just after RTE’s Northern Editor Tommie Gorman spoke about the tragic events in Buncrana.
Ryan said today that after speaking to John Boy earlier this week he wanted to come to Buncrana with his show.
He brought his show to Dunfanaghy last June as part of his series ‘Tubridy’s Wild Atlantic Adventure’ – aimed at boosting tourism along the popular tourist route.
Fáilte Ireland is encouraging everyone to come out and attend the broadcasts this year.
On his TV show last Friday Tommie Gorman spoke of the tremendous community spirit in Donegal and Derry and of the remarkable bravery of Davitt Walsh from Kerrykeel.
But Tubridy was left genuinely shocked when he realised the prizewinner was from Buncrana which has been plunged into such sadness in recent weeks.
As a mark of respect the host instructed the Late Late Show housebound not to play the usual celebratory music as Tubridy informed the Buncrana resident he had won €25,000.
