LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL: DONEGAL senior ladies cruised to victory in the Lidl Naional League Division 2 clash away to Kildare this afternoon.
The game at Ballykelly GAA club in Monasterevin was over by half-time as two goals from the brilliant Yvonne McMonagle and one each from Geraldine McLaughlin and Elish Ward gave them a 4-11 to 0-02 lead.
Donegal manager Micheal Naughton made a number of changes as Donegal added seven more points in the second half to win 4-18 to 0-06.
There were mixed fortunes for the Donegal underage teams at the weekend.
The two Donegal U16 panels travelled to Crossmaglen to take on Armagh.
The Development League team had an emphatic win over the hosts in the first game of the day with captain Susanne White (Killybegs) ending with a personal tally of 6-06.
It was a good all round team performance with Amy Laverty (Mac Cumhaills) and Niamh McDevitt (Fanad Gaels) having particularly good games.
The U16 Championship team fared less well against Armagh.
The girls never really got going after the long journey to Crossmaglen but had two goal chances gone the right side of the post in the first half – they whisked inches wide – it might have been a more competitive game, but Armagh are a classy side and will, on this display, be favourites to take the Ulster U16A title this year.
The Donegal girls however will bounce back from this defeat. Having already beaten a good Tyrone team, they play Derry in a fortnight with a place in the Ulster B final the prize.
Next up at underage level is the Donegal U14 Championship team. They travel to Killyclogher outside Omagh next Sunday for their clash with Tyrone (3pm).
