POLITICS: Acting Taoiseach Enda Kenny has warned Independent TD’s that either they support a minority led Fine Gael Government or they face the prospect of another General Election.
Negotiations between Fine Gael and Independent TDs have been on-going for a number of days and without much progress according to senior sources in both camps.
However, it is believed that Enda Kenny issued a stark warning to the Independents during the deliberations over the next Government.
It’s believed he told the Independents that if they don’t form a Government with a minority led Fine Gael, then it will be inevitable that there is another election.
Sources say he told the Independents that a coalition was not a possibility because Fianna Fáil had ruled it out, and that his party wouldn’t support a minority Government led by Micheál Martin.
It is believed that both Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil will hold talks before the weekend.
Both parties are preparing for the talks, and it is expected both will be at logger heads over the future of both Irish Water and the USC. (Universal Social Charge)
Green Party leader Eamon Ryan said his party was stepping aside as an arrangement between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil was the only viable option to form a stable Government.
