The priest who will say the funeral masses of the five people who perished in the Donegal drowning disaster, says he will ask God for guidance during the heart-breaking ceremony.
Fr. Paddy O’Kane, a close family friend of those who perished in Sunday’s tragedy will officiate at today’s funerals in Derry.
Sean McGrotty, 46, his sons Evan 12, Mark 8, will be laid to rest alongside their grandmother Ruth Daniels, 57, and her daughter Jodi-Lee 15, at a funeral mass which takes place at 2pm in Derry.
Fr. Paddy O’Kane has revealed that he has asked god for guidance and help today ahead of his eulogy at the funerals.
Today’s heart-breaking funerals will take place at the Holy Family Church in Ballymagroarty at 2pm.
A number of choirs including St Joseph’s School Choir, St Mary’s Choir and St Eithne’s School choir as well as St Joseph’s Traditional group will perform at the funeral.
The First Reading will be read by Mary Hamilton while the Second Reading will be read by Jim McGrotty, a brother of the late Sean McGrotty who perished in the tragedy.
Local priest Fr Paddy O’Kane will deliver the homily and will also read a reflection while a number of poems will also be read.
A special poem which was written in honour of Louise will also be read out.
The family have agreed to allow the media to cover the funeral and a special area has been set out for the press.
Those who perished in the tragedy will all be buried at the City Cemetery, with Sean and his two sons being buried in one plot alongside Ms Daniels and her daughter in the next plot.
Meanwhile hundreds of people are expected to attend a prayer vigil on the shorefront in Buncrana on Sunday night next at 7pm – exactly one week after the tragedy.
