FOOTBALL: There will be some party in Arranmore tonight – after their men’s football team captured the Saturday League title this afternoon.
Arranmore have enjoyed a sensational season, and the club has been transformed since Jerry Early took over the reins two years ago.
The club was at a low ebb, but Early one of the club’s greatest ever players decided to return to the managerial hot seat, and what an appointment it has been!
It really is an incredible achievement for a club that has been decimated by emigration and gives great hope to all rural clubs.
After gaining promotion to the top tier of the Saturday league, the aim probably would’ve been to consolidate their league status, but they flipped the script and won the League title in great style.
Many of their players had to depart Arranmore in recent years due to the economic crash, but the senior players that remained on, coupled with a great bunch of young talented players have brought brilliant success to the Island.
Arranmore defeated Orchard 1-0, with a goal from star man Gavin McGlanaghey settling the contest.
Arranmore only needed a point to the secure the title, but they did it in style and they’ll be celebrating into the ‘EARLY’ hours tonight.
Jerry will no doubt put on a FREE bar for all players and supporters tonight! 🙂
Well done to all involved.
