Locals have expressed their anger and disgust after a graveyard was senselessly vandalised in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Ray Church, Falcarragh was vandalised last night in an act which has been described as ‘deplorable’ by locals in the area.
Gardaí were called to the scene at around 7am and arrested the group of vandals responsible.
A fight had broken out between members of the group and had spilled onto the main road adjacent to the graveyard.
Local man John Curran expressed his disgust on his Facebook timeline.
Curran said, “I was saddened this evening to visit Ray Church to see first hand the damage inflicted by vandals to the graveyard last night.
“It’s a shame that in a week full of community celebrations for Proclamation Day and St Patrick’s Day that this is the end result of a general lack of respect within sectors of our community.
“Compliments are due to the Gardai for their response last night and today.
“I think that we as a community have to show solidarity with our neighbours. I will be happy to contribute to the repair of the damage and sadly to increased security for the church.”
