DONEGAL ladies gaelic teams are in action this weekend with a call to football fans to get out and support the teams.
First up on Saturday afternoon is a double header at the superb facilities at Coláiste Ailigh in Letterkenny.
The U14 development league team begin their Ulster League campaign with a clash with Fermanagh at 1.30pm.
Manager Colin O’Kane (St Eunan’s) says he is looking forward to the match.
“The girls have worked so hard over the last couple of months and this is where the real action begins,” he said.
“It’s heartening to see the dedication of girls from every part of the county and the way they have bonded into a single unit and they are really looking forward to getting out onto the pitch.”
At 3pm the Donegal U14 Championship team begin their Ulster campaign when Derry are the visitors.
Manager Greg Harkin (St Eunan’s) has a number of injury concerns but is also looking forward to the game and is hoping for a good crowd to get behind the team.
“We have an excellent panel again this year so my hardest job on Saturday is going to be which 15 we start with because every girl has shown so much dedication, not just from January, but during the autumn academies too,” said Harkin.
“Ladies football in Donegal is on an upward curve and it really is football as it should be. The skill levels have gone up another notch and that’s all down to the hard work at the clubs and the hard work being put in at county development level.”
At the same time – 3pm – Donegal’s Minors host Armagh in Termon in their opening Ulster Championship clash.
Manager Trevor Alcorn (Termon) is hoping for a good crowd there too to support the county team, many of whom are tipped for future stardom with the Seniors.
Sunday sees the Donegal U16s travel the short distance to Urney to take on Tyrone in their opening fixture of the Ulster Championship.
Managers Liam Skelly (Moville) and Paddy McMenamin (Termon) have pulled together an exciting and talented squad.
“The girls have put in a lot of hard work over the past few months, many of them from last October so we are looking forward to the game now,” said Liam.
“Tyrone are going to be a tough prospect but we are focused on the task in hand and hope we get as many supporters in Urney as possible.”
