When this rather exotic bird flew into Alister Gourley’s garden, he knew it probably was’t from around these parts.
Alister, who lives at Oran Hill in the Mountain Top area of Letterkenny, immediately called Alcorn’s Tropical World thinking it was one of theirs.
Alas, they called to Alister’s home, but simply couldn’t catch the creature.
It flew off and could still be on the loose in Letterkenny.
Alister contacted Donegal Daily and we connected our friend Niall Hatch of Birdwatch Ireland.
Niall revealed the bird is not from Letterkenny or even Ireland for that matter but has its origins in far-flung China.
The bird in question is a male Golden Pheasant and Niall guessed it had probably escaped from captivity locally.
We still don’t know who owns the bird but if you come across it, please contact us at info@donegaldaily.com and we will try to reunite it with its owner.
