Letterkenny District Court heard how St Johnston man Edward Flanagan, 45, did not remember the last half mile of his journey.
He appeared in court charged with dangerous driving at Tullyrap, Lifford on April 4th, 2014.
Witnesses to the incident revealed how Mr Flanagan was driving on the wrong side of the road.
His solicitor, Mr Donagh Cleary, told the court how his client had no recollection at all of the incident.
“He suffered a catastrophic loss of consciousness,” he said.
Mr Flanagan, a father-of-two, had been tested for alcohol intake which had proved negative.
Mr Cleary said his client suffered from sleep apnea and had no previous convictions.
He produced a medical report which stated that his client did suffer from a sleeping disorder and that he wore a mask at night to help with his condition.
However Judge Paul Kelly said the incident raises questions as to should he be driving at all.
“It’s very worrying for anybody else driving on day this man is,” he remarked.
He then said he would strike out the charge against Mr Flanagan.
