Pupils from Pobalscoil Chloich Cheannfhaola in Falcarragh will present a programme on 1916 on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta next Monday as part of the 1916 Dearcadh na hÓige series.
The programme is base on a young man from the area, Charlie Mac Aoidh, who was a member of the RIC during the Rising and was shot dead in Co. Louth on Easter Monday. Those we will hear in the show will include local historians Mícheál Ó Domhnaill and Seosamh Ó Ceallaigh, Dr Méabha Ní Bhaoill, Máire Mhic Niallais and a nephew of Charlie Mac Aoidh, Micí.
Pobalscoil Chloich Cheannfhaola was one of 7 schools that won the opportunity to put together a radio programme on 1916, with help from a producer, in the 1916 Schools’ Radio Competition run by RnaG.
The overall winner of the competition will receive €1000, and will be announced live on air on Easter Monday in a programme from the Mansion House in Dublin at 4.15 pm.
