DONEGAL Ladies U14 gaelic footballers returned victorious from the All-Ulster annual blitz – with both teams picking up silverware.
A total of 54 girls from clubs across Donegal are playing for their county this year in Championship and League competitions.
In the traditional curtain-raiser the Donegal Championship team saw off the challenge of the eight other counties. They won six games in a row at the Mid-Ulster Sports Arena in Cookstown, Co Tyrone, to lift the coveted top prize – the A Championship Cup, defeating Armagh in the final.
The Donegal League side, not to be outdone, won the plate final in a gritty performance, defeating Down in their play-off.
Both teams open their campaign proper next Saturday, March 19, at St Mary’s GAA club in Convoy. The league development side play Fermanagh at 1.30pm. The Championship team take on Derry in their title opener at 3pm.
Many Ladies clubs across the county are taking their U12 and U14 club members to St Mary’s to see the games.
Many of the players involved in both county teams were part of the 12-week autumn development camp run at Coláiste Ailigh in Letterkenny.
