Glenea United 3 Milford United 2
Glenea took all 3 points in this hard earned victory over Milford to help their efforts in their relegation battle. Glenea started well and pressed hard for the opening goal and were denied twice in quick succession on 20 minutes when both Ciaran Mc Geady and Darren Mc Geever saw efforts come back off the cross bar. As the half progressed Milford came more into the game and on 35 minutes went close when Paddy Peoples headed over from a corner. In the 2nd half the home side started well again but were unable to create a clear cut chance and were made to pay on 60 minutes when Gary Merritt drilled home a free-kick form the edge of the box, to put Milford ahead. Glenea continues to press and were awarded a penalty for handball on 70 minutes which Darren Mc Geever converted. Both sides tried hard to find a winning goal but were unable to really trouble either goalkeeper until on 89 minutes when, after good work by Christopher Cannon down the right wing, his cross found Eamonn McHugh at the back post and he buried the ball into the net. However the drama was only starting as Milford found an equaliser deep into injury time when Gary Merritt’s attempted effort form outside the box was deflected home into the net by Mark Flood. Milford then almost took the lead when PJ Hagan’s drive across the six yard line just failed to be turned into the home team’s net. Just as it seemed a draw would result the ball broke to Kevin Mulhern 25 yards out and his effort could only be parried by the visiting keeper and Darren Mc Geever reacted quickest to slide the ball home. Best for Glenea were Dean Gallagher, Kevin Mulhern and Lee O’Brien, while Joey Cullen and Gary Merritt were best for Milford. Referee: Ed Moore.
Drumoghill F.C. 0 St. Catherines 1
St. Catherine’s are back in the title chase after this vital victory over league leaders Drumoghill F.C. at The Moss. Brendan Maguire’s strike on 70 minutes was the difference on the day and this result will give hope to the chasing pack. Drumoghill did have chances but St. Catherine’s edged the contest over the course of the 90 minutes and will feel they deserved their victory. Paddy Rafferty could have put the home side in the lead on 12 minutes before St. Catherine’s had chances in a first half that was shaded by the visitors. Maguire’s strike on 70 minutes gave Paul McCauley no chance with the ball taking a slight deflection of the unfortunate David O’Carroll.
Temple Domestic Appliances Division One
Lagan Harps 3 Kerrykeel ’71 F.C. 1
Lagan kept their promotion hopes alive with this win over a dogged Kerrykeel side. Kerrykeel had the first real chance when Sean Patton broke through on five minutes but shot over. Lagan began to dominate possession and Gerard Hilley and Philip Doran went close. Lagan took the lead on twenty minutes when Chris Toner was pushed in the box and Glen Gallagher converted the penalty. Lagan continued to press and Marty Brogan had a shot from the edge of the area well saved by Shane Sandilands. Lagan almost increased their lead on fifty minutes when a long ball from Travis Crawford bounced awkwardly forcing Shane Sandilands to push over. Lagan made it 2-0 on fifty six minutes when Gerard Hilley pulled the ball back for Mark Hunter to score. Kerrykeel pulled a goal back on eighty two minutes when Andrew Friel seized on a poor kick out. Although Jason Quinn pushed his shot on to the bar Barney Mc Bride tapped in. Shane Sandilands then pulled off a great save from Mark Hunter. Mark Hunter tied up the points when he smashed home from twenty five yards when Chris Toner set him up. Best for Lagan were Chris Toner, Marty Brogan and Glen Gallagher. For Kerrykeel Shane Sandilands pulled off some fine saves and centre backs Conor Mc Fadden and Michael Mc Devitt were excellent. Referee: Maurice Laverty.
Lifford Celtic 0 Raphoe Town 3
This was a scrappy game played in very heavy conditions in the Greenbrae. Both teams cancelled each other out in the first half until Raphoe caught Lifford out with a quick corner routine and right back Christy Bogle struck a sweet shot into the top corner from an acute angle. Roulston came close for Lifford with a great left footed strike which looked like it was going in but hit both posts and incredibly stayed out. Raphoe took control early in the 2nd half after a cross from Jamie Gallagher was turned into the net by Seamus Bogle. Raphoe got the 3rd soon after when Gallagher got on the end of a free from the right. Lifford created a few half chances after this but in fairness Raphoe were comfortable by this stage. Team performance from Lifford, Gallagher and Mc Brearty were best for Raphoe.
Donegal Town 5 Cranford United 3
Played in beautiful conditions in the Hospital Field, league contenders Donegal Town looked the stronger of the sides from the start. However, contrary to flow of the game, it was Cranford who took the lead 20 minutes into the first half, a wonder strike from Andrew Kelly sailing past the Donegal keeper and into the top right-hand corner. Donegal failed to settle following the goal and Cranford capitalised, Caolan McGee finding the back of the net with another terrific strike. In the dying minutes of the first half Donegal’s tenacity was rewarded when Daniel McHugh managed to squeeze the ball past the keeper and centre-half from a tight angle. Donegal were on the offensive! Within 2 minutes Donegal were rewarded, Ray Mc Groary made the most of a free header and Adrian Ward made no mistake in converting from close range. 2 – 2 at half time. The second half began in much the same style as the first half had ended. Donegal Town dominated play all over the field. Ciaran O’Reilly bossing the high ball in the middle of the field while Brighton and Joe Mc Intyre on the right and left wings continued the onslaught in attack. The pace of David Graham proved a problem for Cranford’s back line, and Donegal reaped the benefits when five minutes into the second half Graham’s cross found Adrian Ward on the back post, 3 – 2 to Donegal. Mc Intyre’s relentless efforts were also rewarded when he too found the back of the net with a long-range effort, 4 – 2 to Donegal and the game looked over. Cranford didn’t give up. Andrew Kelly once again scoring before the 90 minutes was up. The game was wrapped up by David Graham for Donegal, an outstanding first touch and a tidy chip to finish beating the Cranford number 1. The game ended 5 – 3 to Donegal.

Deele Harps 3 Curragh Athletic 0
Deele welcomed Curragh to The Athletic Grounds on a great day for football. The home side were slow to settle and careless in possession but still created a couple of clear openings but their finishing was poor. The deadlock was broken on 32 minutes when following a succession of corners, a cross from open play from Kevy Mc Brearty was flicked on by Darren Gillespie and centre half Thomas Mullan fired home from 12 yards. Deele huffed and puffed in the second half and spurned a few good opportunities. The Deele rearguard was well marshalled by Thomas Mullan and the brilliant Gary Crawford meaning Chris Roulstone saw little action in the Deele goal. Deele increased their lead on 58 minutes when Kevy Mc Brearty’s pinpoint corner was met with a bullet like header from Thomas Mullan. Deele had their tails up now and put the game to bed three minutes later following good approach play involving Paul Lynch and a Shane Gallagher one two with Kevy Mc Brearty saw the Deele Player/Manager firing home the decisive third goal. Deele had a number of great performances on the day but Gary Crawford was the pick of the bunch with another solid display at the back.
Copany Rovers 3 Letterbarrow Celtic 4
Copany hosted their local rivals in a keenly contested game. Letterbarrow started the brighter and hit Copany with two quick goals. Copany then came to life and scored two goals through Thomas Given to draw level . Copany had their tails up at this stage and took the lead through Lee Doherty to go into at halftime 3-2 to the good. The second half was a much tighter affair and on 60 minutes Letterbarrow equalised. And it was the away side who snatched the victory on the 92nd minute from a corner. Team performance from the visitors, Thomas Given best for Copany .

Knockalla Cup
Cappry Rovers 0 Cockhill Celtic 1
Ulster league champions Cockhill Celtic advanced to the next round of the Knockalla Caravans Cup when they defeated Cappry Rovers in Cappry Park by one goal to nil in an entertaining game. Both teams created numerous chances in the opening minutes with both defences and keepers busy. Cockhill came more into the game as it went on but couldn’t find a way through the home defence. Cappry’s Aaron Kelly had a great chance in the thirty seventh minute when he broke with only the keeper to beat but he was taken down by the keeper outside the area. Cockhill got the breakthrough in the forty seventh minute following a free kick when Malachy Mc Dermott scored at the back post with a header. Following this Cockhill put the pressure on in search of the second goal but Cappry held firm and were unlucky not to score themselves. This was a spirited performance from a Cappry team that are struggling in the Premier Division but with more performances like this one they could pull themselves to safety from the bottom of the table. Darren O’ Leary, Darren Mc Gowan and Rory Dunleavy were best for Cappry. Best for Cockhill were Malachy Mc Dermott and Jason Breslin. Referee: Joe Mc Hugh.

Orchard F.C. 2 Glencar Celtic 1
On a fine day in Rathmullan Glencar Celtic hosted Orchard United. Orchard started brightest and were a goal up inside 5 minutes when Gibby nipped in to slot home. Sean Sweeney then made it 2-0 from the penalty spot. The second half was a tough battle with the Orchard defence standing tall with Rory O’ Gorman, Orchard’s best player on the day, in no mood to concede. Mark Graham did however score to bring Glencar back into the match when he headed home Garvin Grieve’s cross. Orchard held out for the win. Player/Manager Junior Russell rolled back the years with a cameo-roll at the end. best for orchard Rory Gorman and the evergreen Paddy O’ Kane was best for Glencar. Referee: Peter Fox.
Drumbar F.C. 2 Strand Rovers 2
The away side started the better without causing too much trouble for the back four of the home side. They went ahead however from a free kick after twenty minutes. It wasn’t long before they doubled their advantage. This wakened the hosts who went on to dominate the remaining seventy minutes of play. Enda Brogan got one back when he latched on to Gavin Bennett’s corner to score. Daniel Bennett equalised for Drumbar when he converted from the penalty spot after Ray Balogun had been fouled. Drumbar passed up two great chances to take all three points but will be happy with this great fightback against Strand who were always dangerous on the counter attack.
Glencar Inn Saturday Reserve Division
Glenree United Reserves 4 St. Catherines Reserves 1
The home side went behind early in the first half when they conceded from a corner. Glenree responded quickly through Dylan Mc Bride when his lobbed shot went over the keeper. Patrick Mc Geever put the home side ahead with a close range finish after good work down the left by Glenree. The lead was extended to 3-1 on the hour mark when Micky Buchanan found Denis Doherty in space on the edge of the box and he rifled home giving the keeper no chance. St. Catherines pushed forward and had some opportunities to pull a goal back but the scoring was rounded off when Doherty delivered a dangerous corner that ended up in the net to make it 4-1. Great team performance from Glenree especially Denis Doherty. Referee: Ed Moore
Donegal Town Reserves 2 Milford United Reserves 3
Donegal Town took the lead 10 minutes into the first half. Ben Sweeney slipped the ball through the Milford defence to David “Ted’ Bustard. Bustard then brilliantly chipped the keeper from a narrow angle. It wasn’t long until Milford were back on level terms. Nathan Hegarty’s free kick was tipped past the Donegal keeper by Milford’s Adam Bolton. Hegarty had a chance to put Milford a goal ahead but his second free kick went narrowly over the bar. The sides were level at the half time break. Donegal came out with intent in the second half and Joe Lafferty put his side back on top. Lafferty jumped highest and headed Gary Ward’s corner into the Milford net. It wasn’t long until Milford levelled the scores for a second time. Milford were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Donegal box. This time Hegarty hammered the ball onto the underside of the Donegal crossbar. Milford now with the initiative took the lead soon after this. Some tidy passing opened up the Donegal defence to leave Scot Mc Bride one on one with the Donegal keeper. McBride fired the ball low into the corner to seal all three points for Milford.
Curragh Athletic Reserves 0 Keadue Rovers Reserves 1
Keadue came close in the opening minutes before the Curragh fought back, and this is how most of the game played out with the Curragh progressing well down the wings, and Keadue strong through the middle. Anto Mc Hugh in the Curragh net did well from Keadue’s long range shots, and the Keadue keeper saved well, in particular from a one on one with Gary Heaney. On 65minutes the Curragh were reduced to ten men. Ryan Green beat the Curragh defence and McHugh dived at his feet and brought him down. A quick substitution to replace the keeper, but Green’s firm strike nestled in the corner with Woods diving the other way. Keadue were subsequently reduced to ten men when, having used all their subs, one of the players was forced to leave the action through injury. James Sweeney then saw red for a second bookable offence and the sides were once more reduced to favour the West Donegal side. Best for Curragh was Stephen Sweeney. Referee: Brian O’ Kane.
Cappry Rovers Reserves 0 Glenea United Reserves 2
This game was played in excellent conditions in Cappry. The away team pressed for a goal in the first half but were unable to break through the home team’s defence. Cappry were dangerous on the break and also had chances to open the scoring. Cappry had the first chance in the 2nd half when Conor Laverty brought a good save from the Glenea keeper. The game’s opening goal came in the 57th minute when Glenea were awarded a penalty which was well finished. The game was a close affair and both teams had chances to score but the score remained 1-0 until the 70th minute when Glenea doubled their lead. Glenea controlled the last 20 minutes and closed out the game to win 2-0. Referee: Barry Hunter
Castlefin Celtic Reserves 3 Drumoghill F.C. Reserves 0
Castlefin registered another home win to maintain their slim title chances against a stubborn Drumoghill side. The hosts started the brighter and Matthew O’ Rourke fashioned the first chance but his shot flashed wide. The hosts took the lead in a flowing move when James Mc Menamin played through Brian Dooher who slotted home after 15 minutes. The visitor’s came into the game and created a few chances through Ethan Mc Cready and Caolan Mc Monagle but Simon Mc Menamin stood firm in the home goals. The second half began with the home side on the front foot and they had numerous chances to increase their lead through PJ Mc Menamin and O’ Rourke but they came to no avail. The second goal finally arrived in the 70 minute when O’ Rourke received a short corner from the right and he rifled a shot into the top corner. Best for Castlefin: Brian and Paddy Dooher. Best for Drumoghill: Ethan Mc Cready
