ATHLETICS: Mark English has been forced to withdraw from the forthcoming World Indoor Championships in the US – after suffering an injury in training.
English has been forced to withdraw from the event in Portland, after he twisted an ankle at a training camp in preparation for the major event.
It’s a massive blow for English who has been in superb form of late, and he was full of confidence ahead of the championships in the US.
The 22 yea-old UCD Medical student was due to race in the 800m after winning a bronze at the European Championships in 2014 and a bronze at the European Indoors last year.
“It’s disappointing Mark won’t be able to compete in Oregon but thankfully it’s now rather than in the summer,” Kevin Ankrom, Athletics Ireland High Performance Director, said.
