RAPHOE NOTES:
Raphoe Family Resource Centre:
International Women’s Day
The Family Resource Centre would like to thank all those who contributed to or attended our International Women’s Day celebration on Tuesday 8th March in The Volt House Hall. Participating organisations included Raphoe FRC, Raphoe Community in Action, Raphoe Tidy Towns CE Project, Donegal ETB, The Friday Club, The Tuesday Ladies, Raphoe Art Group and The Diamond Writers who kindly entertained us with a selection of their short stories-funny and sad. We wish them well on the forthcoming launch of their second collection of stories and writings. Thanks to the Diamond Writers for donating 2 copies of their first book and to Mary Mc Granaghan for donating the beautiful spring flowers arrangement for the impromptu quiz. A coffee morning was also held on the day with the following amount raised for the Marie Keating Foundation-€270.92 and £2.01. Thanks to all who donated. A very special thank you to all those who baked or donated foodstuff particularly Harriet Kilpatrick, Jacqueline Gallagher, Jacqui Kilpatrick, Patricia Tinney and Marie Porter.
Wellness Workshop
The Wellness Workshop held on Thursday 10th March facilitated by S.O.S. in collaboration with the Family Resource Centre was a tremendous success with 45 participants in attendance. We hope that you all gained sufficient advice and support on taking responsibility for your own emotional health. We would like to thank the two S.O.S. facilitators Caroline and Robert for delivering such an informative workshop. Sincere thanks to Racheal and Pearl O’Donnell for the lovely scones, Marie Porter for the delicious soup, Jacqueline Gallagher, Patricia Tinney and Melanie Sweeney for the tasty sandwiches, and to Patricia Porter for all her help on the day.
Date for your diary
The Family Resource Centre will this year again host ASIST training on Wednesday 4th & Thursday 5th May. The 2-day workshop trains participants to reduce the immediate risk of suicide and increase the support for a person at risk. It provides opportunities to learn what a person at risk may need from others in order to keep safe and get more help. This is an updated ASIST and those who have completed the training 2 or more years ago are encouraged to attend again. Contact the Family Resource Centre on 074-9145796 or 087-3641503 to book a place or Sarah Meehan, ASIST Coordinator for Donegal on 071-9852000/086-0421040 or sarahm.meehan@hse.ie

Raphoe Boxing Club
The boxers and officials at the Raphoe Boxing Club would like to extend a sincere thanks to everyone at Raphoe Road Runners for their generous donation from their very successful New Year’s Day 5K. It is greatly appreciated by all at the Boxing Club.
Congratulations to local girl Aoife McGinley who represented the Clanree Hotel in this year’s Donegal Rose Selection. Well done from all at the boxing club.
On Saturday last Raphoe boxers Liam Crawford and Tom Doherty were part of the Co. Donegal team that travelled to Ennis in Co. Clare to box at a major inter-county tournament in the Ennis Community Centre. Liam Crawford turned in a veteran’s display of ring craft when he outpointed Clare’s Lee Lyons. Tom Doherty gave a good display of guts and courage only to lose out to Adam Grant. The team result was Donegal 6 bouts, Co. Clare 6 bouts.
On Sunday next Liam Crawford and Liam McMonagle will compete in the N.W. Zones Championships in Clonmany C.C. The winners here will go on to the Ulster Finals on Sunday 13th March in Crossmaglen, Co. Armagh.
