FEATURES: It was an amazingly successful day at the Junk Kouture Northern Regional finals for Deele College, with three teams being selected for the grand final in the 3 Arena, which will pit the best student designers in the country against one another.
While three of Deele’s entries made it to the final , the other three entries narrowly missed out on the short list but are still in the running and still hoping to be selected as a wildcard selection for the grand finale.
The outfit ‘Trashparency’ made by Breenagh Golden, Shannon Collins and Chloe Lafferty ‘White Lightning’ made by Louise Brogan and Megan Barnett and ‘Osiris’ made by Diarmuid Drumm, Nicole Kelly and Coral Morning all made it through to the Grand Final.
The outfits ‘Atlantic Queen’ made by Rebecca Quinn, Nicole Kavanagh and Shannon laird ‘Nailed It’ by Shannon McNamee, Rachel and Jessica Wood and lastly ‘Splish, Splash, Splosh’ by Courtney Downey, Louise Brogan and Rachel O’Donnell narrowly missed out on the shortlist.
Louise Brogan from ‘White Lightning’ explained that their dress was made from shredded paper rolled into small quills, recycled crisp bags and broken CD’s. When her team began to make the dress they decided early on that they wanted to make a glamorous dress and they would take their time with it. They started in late October and finished earlier this year.
She spoke about how long it took to curl up the paper using a quilling tool and each individual crisp bag had to be rolled up and cut into eight squares to make up the bottom of the dress. Louise said she and her team are really looking forward to the Grand Final.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all the teams good luck in the Grand Final which will be staged in the 3 Arena in Dublin on the 14th of April.
