BREAKING NEWS: Gardaí are questioning a Donegal dissident terror suspect following the seizure of three assault rifles suspected to have been used in the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel last month.
The 33-year-old was shot dead at a boxing weigh-in by an armed gang as part of a feud between two criminal gangs.
The Donegal man was arrested in Co Meath yesterday afternoon and is being detained at Drogheda Garda Station. Details of the arrest have only just been released.
Three AK 47 assault rifles were recovered and are now being examined to establish if they were used in the Dublin murder.
The Donegal man – who is in his 30s – was held after armed gardaí from the Emergency Response Unit and the Special Detective Unit stopped a car near Slane.
The suspect is believed to be connected to dissident republicans. He can be held for up to three days by detectives.
The operation and arrest was the result of a massive undercover garda operation involving detectives in Donegal and Dublin.
