Are you a second level student interested in coding?
Then if so, why not come along to Letterkenny Institute of Technology’s uCode 2016 competition this Friday 11 March.
This programming based competition is open to second level students and will involve the students using the programming application ‘Scratch’.
The task for the participating students is to produce a mini game with an educational theme for a particular age group.
Speaking to Donegal Daily, Thomas Dowling, Head of Department of Computing, said the Department of Computing at the Institute has been involved in Coderdojo programmes throughout this county, and beyond, for a number of years.
“Our graduates and staff have volunteered at Coderdojo initiatives, and the uCode event at the Institute is yet another step in the right direction at encouraging students to code. We have been overwhelmed by the interest in this event, and to date, we have 36 teams and 11 second level schools participating. It is hoped that this event will ignite, and stimulate, second level students’ passion for coding.
“Students should arrive at the Institute by 11am and they will be assigned a computer lab to work in. They will be categorised based on their ages and divided into teams of 3. There will be 1st and 2nd prizes within each age category and we expect this to be a challenging and exciting competition.”
Any students looking to take part should book their place in advance by Wednesday 9 March by emailing thomas.dowling@lyit.ie. You must book in advance to secure a place in this competition.
