hockey-lluviaRaphoe were away to Ballyclare yesterday and got back on form, winning a 4-1 game aganist Ballyclare.

The winning team started off strong by scoring within the first 2 minutes of the first half.
Raphoe switched the ball right to Arlyne Kilpatrick who drove down the right line, using her speed and skill to push through Ballyclares defense as Rachel Buchanan became free for a pass. Buchanan powered the ball into the D finding Kim Porter who slotted it past Ballyclare Goalkeeper, convincingly.

Raphoe dominated play in the first half with a lot of solid passing across the back to interact with the midfielders. Centre midfielder, Esther Hume made use of her supporting network, Lyndsey Tinney and Sarah Patterson to switch the play from left to right.

Ballyclare had a few promising chances in the 1st half with a loose right midfielder challenging Raphoes left side who fed the ball into the D, however Ballyclare failed to make use of their opportunities.

2nd goal came from Katy Love receiving the ball from a long corner by Kilpatrick who then switched it to Leanne Patterson who dribbled her way past the defensive tackles into the D, reverse passing the ball to an eagerly awaiting Buchanan on the post who smashed it past the keeper.

The 1st half ended 2-0

Ballyclare came into form at the start of the 2nd half, to win a short corner. Buchanan made an attempt to clear the ball wide however a free Ballyclare player picked it up to take her chance to shoot past the raphoe keeper, opening the half with a goal to upset Raphoe.

Raphoe reacted quickly, as both Patterson and Kilpatrick worked hard to win short corners, resulting in a long corner to find Katy Love in the D who reversed a “clinker” of a shot past the keeper, giving her no chance to react.

On the 25th min, Raphoe went down to 10 players, after Shannon Porter was handed a green card for breaking down play with a few ill timed tackles.
Ballyclare started creating space down their strong side to find their centre forward looking to challenge the goalkeeper denise McElhinney. Mcelhinney cleared the ball to save any upset for Raphoe. However, Ballyclare were quick on the long corners and challenged sarah Boal and Vicky Wray who had to team up on several occasions to push the attacking force out.

Raphoe were quick on the attack after Leanne Patterson won a free in the Raphoe half, who quickly nailed the ball to a free Sabrina Barnett on the other side of the pitch who swiftly switched the ball right, to a sprinting Buchanan who fed the ball into Love who slotted her 2nd goal home to end the game 4-1 to Raphoe.

Raphoe 2nd XI also had a convincing win against Dromore 4th XI, winning 3-0 with goals from Liffey Mckinney, Kirsty Mckinney and Leanne Patterson.

Next week Raphoe host Premier league side Dungannon in the Presidents Cup @ 1.00pm at the Royal and Prior School grounds. All support will be appreciated.
