Former Kerry star Paul Galvin has took to Twitter to have his say on the controversial incident between Neil McGee and Alan Fitzgerald.
In just the seventh minute of the NFL clash between the two sides – Kerry forward Fitzgerald was shown a straight red for striking Neil McGee several times in the face.
The exchange left McGee needing treatment – as his nose was bleeding profusely after the physical exchange with Fitzgerald.
Replays showed that McGee appeared to be attempting to bend Fitzgerald’s fingers back, which prompted the angry reaction from the Kerry star.
However, Paul Galvin has expressed his belief that McGee deserved to get his nose ‘popped’ as he had initiated it by bending Fitzgerald’s fingers.
Galvin tweeted, “No harm for McGee to get his nose popped for what he did to Alan Fitz. That’s going to him a long time. #Kerry #AllianzLeagues
Some Donegal supporters condemned Galvin’s tweet, saying an ‘eye for an eye’ mentality was wrong, and said it was an irresponsible comment to make.
Kerry star James O’Donoghue waded into the row on social media, and claimed McGee was trying to break Fitzgerald’s finger, “Red card for a little punch and nothing for trying to break a fellas fingers. Good umpire.
