Former Derry City legend Liam Coyle has blasted the state of the playing surface at Finn Park – and branded the game between Harps and Derry as awful.
Coyle was on commentating duties with BBC Radio Foyle along with Eric White.
Goals by Dave Scully and Ryan Curran earned a famous win for Harps, Rory Patterson pulled one back in injury-time to set up a frantic finish.
However, the former Derry City striker was unimpressed by the performance of his former club.
It was Kenny Shiels first game in charge, as Harps registered their first win over their nearest rivals in the league for the first time in eighteen years.
However, Coyle was unimpressed with Derry’s defence and also blasted the state of the playing surface at Finn Park.
Coyle said Harps fully deserved the win and showed more hunger and desire than Derry City.
He also singled out Damien McNulty for special praise, saying he set the tone with a series of crunching tackles.
Coyle said, “It’s been a terrible game of football, absolutely terrible, but in fairness I feel sorry for the players.
“The playing surface is shocking, the players are struggling to run on it – and it’s just not conducive for football.
“It was a terrible game, but Harps deserved the win, Derry have had no fight in them at all.
“All the second balls were won by Harps, and they defended resolutely – they had more hunger and deserved the win.
“But it really was an awful game of football.”
