DONEGAL has reported its wettest winter on record since 1885 with a seasonal accumulation of 567.3mm – almost 200mm above average.
The winter report from Met Eireann shows the rainfall at Malin Head was exceptionally high.
A huge 80.6mm was reported at the station on just one day – December 5 – which Met Eireann says was the season’s wettest day anywhere over November, December and January.
The Malin Head station also smashed a half-century record.
Just 12 days after that record daily rainfall it was a balmy 16C at Ireland’s most northerly point.
Met Eireann says that the highest seasonal maximum of 16 degrees at Malin Head was on December 17, its highest winter maximum since 1955.
