IS SMOKELESS COAL BURNING OUT YOUR FIRE GRATE?
BUSINESS: One of Donegal’s most established and respected hardware companies have a string of top-class offers now on!
Watson Home, Hire & Hardware, has come up with a “grate” offer this week.
Since the introduction of the smoky coal ban in Letterkenny, their sales of fire grates have increased dramatically – and this is as a direct result of the temperature at which smokeless coal burns.
Polish and smokeless coal is very severe on fire grates because it burns at a very high temperature.
About 99 per cent of the fire grates come from China and are made from pig iron, which means they don’t last as long when using smokeless coal and usually fall apart after about 18 months.
When a fire grate falls apart the burning coals and embers fall through the broken slots and smoulder away in the ash, resulting in a huge loss of heat and a massive waste of money.
A spokesman for Watson Hire said, “As a result of this increased demand, we have placed a very substantial order with our suppliers and we have made quite a saving on our cost price.
“This means that we can pass on this substantial saving to our customers. For instance, a 16” fire grate, the most common size used in the town area, will be reduced from €17.95 to €9.95 for this batch of stock.
“We don`t expect our stock to last long at this price and would encourage our customers to buy early to avoid disappointment.
“No one in Ireland will beat this price, so don’t miss out”
