GENERAL ELECTION: With just a few hours to go before polling booths close all over Ireland, Paddy Harte has urged the electorate in Donegal to vote for experience not promises.
Harte released a late statement in an appeal to many voters who may still be undecied.
“Having lived in Leterrkenny since secondary school and growing up in Raphoe and come from a family steeped in politics with a proud record of representing East Donegal in Dail Eireann.
“The last East Donegal TD was my father Paddy served as TD for over 37 years and still lives in Raphoe with my mother Rosaleen.
“After today there will be five people ready to go to Dublin to represent Donegal in Dail Eireann, no matter what.
“Representing Donegal is a big responsibility. Part of the job will be to gain access to resources, ensuring those resources are sensibly used and making sure that communities throughout the county are well supported.
“As I am sure everyone agrees we need people with the experience, the expertise and the networks to ensure the job is done properly.
“That’s why I am putting myself forward for election based on my track record, not on empty promises.
“When I worked for the International Fund for Ireland I was delighted and honoured to work closely with many community teams across the county and helped bring €200 million investment to Donegal.
“Many candidates make promises they know they cannot possibly keep, especially if they are on the back benches of the opposition. Donegal needs a voice in government.
“I don’t make promises I cannot keep but I do make the promise to use my expertise in economic development to ensure the county gets the support it deserves.
“When you are making your decision as to where to place your vote I ask you to look at my experience in supporting communities across the whole county.
“With your help I can use my expertise in economic development to ensure that the work I was able to do from outside politics can continue inside politics and therefore I ask you for you Number 1 Vote today to give Letterkenny and Donegal a voice at the top table.”
