RAPHOE NOTES
Raphoe Family Resource Centre:
International Women’s Day
The Family Resource Centre celebrates International Women’s Day each year and as we are now based in The Volt House we have extended an invitation to the other groups and organisations using the House to join with us in celebrating the day. International Women’s Day marks the contribution and the achievements of women in social, economic, cultural and political life. This year’s event will be a Coffee Morning and an Open Morning with the proceeds of the Coffee Morning going to the Marie Keating Foundation. The Open Morning will provide an opportunity for the community to drop into The Volt House and find out what each of the groups housed there are about. Participating projects include: Raphoe Family Resource Centre; Raphoe Community in Action; Raphoe Tidy Towns CE Project; Tuesday Ladies Group; The Friday Club; Diamond Writers; Donegal ETB and Raphoe Art Group. Everyone is welcome to call in for a cup of tea and a chat.
Sponsored Walk
Tony Mc Daid, Project Coordinator of the Family Resource Centre in Raphoe is embarking on a 388km sponsored walk around the 9 Family Resource Centres in Donegal from 4th-15th May. The aim of the walk is to raise money to support the work of the Family Resource Centres while at the same time highlighting the valuable work of the FRCs in supporting children, young people, families and the community.
The National Family Resource Centre Programme was subject to 5% cuts in funding each year during the period 2012-2014 while budgets for 2015 and 2016 remained at 2014 levels. These cuts proved difficult to manage and put increased pressure on Family Resource Centres to sustain their supports and services at pre-cut levels compelling them to initiate local fundraising activities at a time when families and communities were experiencing and continue to experience their own particular financial hardships.
The local community in Raphoe would be aware that the Family Resource Centre relocated premises towards the end of 2015 in an attempt to reduce outgoings. We have also organised small fundraising events and we would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all those who have supported our fundraising efforts thus far.
The other Family Resource Centres in Donegal are: The Forge in Pettigo; Donegal FRC in Donegal Town; Downstrands in Narin/Portnoo; Dunfanaghy; Mevagh in Downings; Cara House in Letterkenny; St.Johnston & Carrigans and Moville.
If you are an individual, a family, a community organisation or a business and would like to sponsor Tony please contact the Family Resource Centre on 074-9145796 or 087-3641503.

Raphoe Boxing Club
Everyone at the Boxing Club would like to tender a sincere thanks to Councillor Frank McBrearty for his very generous donation from the Councillors Development Fund towards the local Boxing Club, it is greatly appreciated.
Sincere thanks goes to local businessman Edward Coyle of Coyle’s Centra, The Diamond, Raphoe who has generously sponsored a new kit of Polo shirts for all the boxers at the local club.
On Friday last Raphoe’s promising schoolboy boxer Liam Crawford travelled to Newport S. Wales to represent the Ulster Boxing Team and Liam turned in a very stylish performance only to lose out to Welsh schoolboy Champion Lewis Varey.
