DONEGAL DAILY CRIME ALERT: HUNDREDS of people in Donegal have been hit again with a bogus Tax Refund scam.
A number of people in Donegal were victims of the fraud last year.
Readers have received e-mails linking them to a bogus website which looks like a legitimate Revenue website.
The scam artists then instruct people to submit their personal details in order to claim back the tax.
The email comes from a bogus email address ending in ‘revenue.ie’
Donegal Daily has been contacted by a large number of people this weekend who are receiving emails telling them that they are due a Tax Refund.
Some people have been offered refunds of around €200. The low monies are deliberately designed to lure people in to thinking it is legitimate – but once you give your bank details, your own account will be emptied.
Victims are asked to click on a link that directs them to a website that looks like the official Revenue.ie site.
They are then asked to input Debit/Credit Card details including pin numbers and also personal information such as Dates of Birth and current address.
Revenue never contact individuals via email or ask for personal information like this and the emails are a complete scam.
We would like to advise our readers to simple delete the emails and ensure their anti – virus software is up to date.
Above is a picture of what the email looks like.
