Athletics Ireland stage their annual national awards dinner Saturday evening next in Tullamore and based on 2015 performances Finn Valley AC and a number of their outstanding young athletes are to be honoured.
The Drifter cup awarded to the best T/F club based on outdoor and indoor results during the year will see Valley retaining it yet another time with club registrar Castlefinn coach Dermot Mc Granaghan stepping up to collect same.
The club had an outstanding season nationally outscoring Leevale , Cork both indoor and outdoor.
Additionally James Kelly is to receive the award as best young thrower nationally after a record breaking season for the young Royal &Prior schoolboy from St Johnston.
Interesting to note that older brother John had received this trophy a number of years ago
Finally Sommer Lecky from Castlederg a student at Strabane Grammer is the recipient of the outstanding athlete in the county category based on again excellent performances at home and abroad topped off with a pb jump in Georgia at European youth olympics which saw her collect bronze 1.80m.
