A Donegal woman has refuted the suggestion she made up a rape allegation because she was getting mocked by her friends for a blood stain on her dress.

The woman alleged that she was raped in an alleyway of a Donegal town in the summer of July 2012.

The woman was 18 at the time of the alleged assault and is now 22 years of age.

The court heard how she went down an alleyway with the accused – and then later re-joined her friends outside a fast food outlet.

However, her friends noticed a blood stain on her dress, and two of her males friends quizzed her about the stain.

The court also heard that the on the night in question she had to be taken to hospital later than night with severe bleeding.

The Irish Independent reported on the trial this afternoon at the Dublin Criminal Court.

During cross-examination the defence counsel led by Shane Costello suggested that the girl made up the rape allegation because she was embarrassed about friends mocking her about the stain.

Costello said, “I put it to you that the rape allegation was a response to you being mocked.”

The woman denied this.

She told prosecuting counsel Pauline Walley that she had liked the before the incident, but that he changed just before it all happened.

“He was like an animal just for them few minutes and then he changed back to being normal again.

“He didn’t care about her saying no, he wanted it so it was going to happen.”

The trial continues before a jury of seven men and five women.
