Capture the Flag, LYIT’s computer security event, takes place this Saturday 20 February at the Letterkenny campus.
Students and industry leaders will be given access to a purpose-built attack server and will be given a series of 30 security challenges and problems to work through, with each challenge building on the previous.
Solving computer problems and assessing vulnerabilities present in the attack servers is the aim of the game.
The Capture the Flag event sets real life challenges for students and allows students to apply their academic knowledge.
William Farrelly, Lecturer, and event organiser, added, “This event, now in its third year, allows students to put into practice techniques learned on their computing courses.
Year-on-year, the LYIT Ethical Hacking Society have played a fundamental role in organising this event, and the employment success rates of previous graduates is a ringing endorsement of the value of events, such as this one.”
Chris Williams, President, LYIT Ethical Hacking Society, commented “As students, events such as Capture the Flag, give us the practical experience necessary to ready us for the workforce. We are delighted to be organising this event with our mentors and encourage anyone interested in participating to contact us.”
