POLITICS: Pat ‘The Cope’ Gallagher has today warmly welcomed the commitment by Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin – after he pledged his support in retaining the services of the three Donegal Community Hospitals facing closure.
Martin has insisted that if Fianna Fáil are in power after the General Election that the three hospitals in Stranorlar, Lifford and Ramelton will remain open.
The Fianna Fáil leader committed in writing to saving all three hospitals and said necessary funding will be made available to ensure the hospitals are upgraded to the highest of standards.
Pat ‘The Cope’ Gallagher told Donegal Daily, “I’m delighted that Micheál Martin has fully pledged his support to save these vital services.
“The Government’s proposed plans to close these facilities is unacceptable and can’t be tolerated.
“You see from the demonstrations held since that announcement the anger and frustration among locals from those communities affected.
“In his visit to Donegal last week, I reiterated to him the seriousness of the issue and insisted that it’s vital and paramount that none of three community hospitals close.
“So I’m delighted, that he has today pledged in writing his support to retaining all these services if Fianna Fáil are in Government after the next General Election.”
