ATHLETICS: Mark English was quick off the mark earlier this evening to set a new Irish record in Stockholm.
English is in a fine vein of form currently and reiterates the belief by many athletics commentators that he’s a genuine medal hope for Ireland at the Olympics in Rio next year.
English set the new record tonight at the 500m distance, which is a distance not regularly ran at top-level athletics.
English won his race in Stockholm in a time of 1:00.93, edging out Amercia’s s Erik Sowinski in the process.
English recently won The Donegal Sports Star of the Year Award for the second year on the trot.
