Donegal star Neil Gallagher will play for LYIT this afternoon when they take on Cavan Institute in the Trench Cup at O’Donnell Park.
Gallagher’s inclusion in the squad will be a huge boost for manager Eamon O’Boyle.
Gallagher is one of the finest midfielders in Ireland – and enjoyed another fine season for Donegal last season.
The Glenswilly powerhouse was introduced as a late substitute during Donegal’s win over Cork on Sunday afternoon.
However, he’ll make his first start of this season this afternoon at O’Donnell Park.
Gallagher is studying part-time at LYIT, and combines his studies with his job with the Donegal County Council.
O’Boyle has persuaded Gallagher to line-out for LYIT and he’ll make his first appearance for the college side this afternoon as they attempt to win the prestigious Trench Cup.
LYIT easily defeated Cavan Institute when the two sides met in the league earlier this season.
However, Cavan Institute were understrength that afternoon, and O’Boyle expects a much tougher test.
They have eight U21 players from Cavan and Monaghan, so they’ll certainly be no pushovers.
The game throws-in at 2pm and the match referee is Daniel Mullan.
