The Spanish Giant “TORRES” hosted a Spanish and Portugal Fine Wine Tasting for some of the loyal customers at Letterkenny’s little wine bar HOUSE.
On Tuesday 2nd February local Letterkenny people gathered to discover what is happening in Penedes today with a serious of vertical tastings.
The Torres Family have been wine making for over three centuries, and remain a family based business with an unbelievable global reputation.
Leading the tasting event was Emma Lorenz, Marketing Director of Torres, accompanied by representatives of Findlater Wine and Spirit Group Tom Gray, Ken Killsella, Paul Nolan and Declan Bonner.
Introducing the first flights with an easy drinking, full-flavoured Sauvignon, quite floral with some melon and lime character, which is more gutsy than many European Sauvignons, it bridges the gap well between New and Old World styles – the Santa Digna, Sauvignon Blanc Reserve, Valle Central, Miguel Torres 2014
Emma went on to explain how the Torres vineyards in Chile have grown since purchased in 1979 of the Ahrex family estate, comprising one hundred hectares of vineyards and a winery.
Attracted by the special climatic conditions of the Curicó region of Chile, Torres has since purchased more and more vineyard in Chile to cope with demand for his very pure, varietal wines.
He now owns some three hundred and thirty hectares of vineyard located around Curicó and spread across three, climactically diverse vineyards. The company continues to expand today.
Moving through the selection of wines, Emma uncorked a bottle of Miguel Torres Altos Ibéricos Crianza 2012, which offers a pleasing, full bodied Spanish, smooth texture Rioja.
As we sniffed and swirled the wine there were aromas of dark red fruit and some smoke with mocha on the finish. Made from the Tempranillo grape, this medium- to full-bodied Rioja red wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months followed by extended bottle aging. This tasty little number is paired perfectly with Pizza!!
