Over the last few weeks I have been giving you some hints and tips to help you to achieve your goals this year.
They were easy to follow and had different options for success depending on your current situation and where you are in regards to your nutrition and your health.
But, all of these things are useless unless you know one thing and that thing is your ‘Why?’.
If you ask someone what they wanted in regards to their health or their weight, they will more than likely have an answer.
The thing is, their answer can often be materialistic and have no real purpose.
Yes it may be something that they ‘want,’ but unless they know why they actually want it, there will be no driving force to help them to achieve what they want.
If you are confused, don’t worry, I am going to make it clear for you to understand.
Situation 1;
John wants to lose weight.
He has decided that he would like to lose 2 stone.
He joins a gym and starts to eat a bit healthier.
After the first week he has 2lbs off and he isn’t overly impressed; all of that hard work and only 2lbs?
Later, the next week, his mates ring and want John to head out the next weekend.
John decides to go and makes a weekend of it.
His diet and exercise goes out the window, but it’s only a weekend and he has been good all week.
When John weighs himself on Monday, he is up 1lb.
Unimpressed by last week’s weight loss and the fact that he is up 1lb this week, John gives up and goes back to his old ways.
John set out a goal for himself and assumed that by starting to do a bit of exercise and eating a bit better he would get instant results.
When things got a bit tough, John’s goal, his “why?”, wasn’t strong enough to keep him on track with what he wanted and he gave up.
Situation 2;
John is overweight.
He goes to the doctor and is told that he has onset diabetes, high blood pressure and could end up with a heart condition.
Shocked by the results, John joins the gym the following day and starts eating better in order to help with his weight.
He has 2lbs off the first week and is happy to see the weight finally coming down.
His friends are having a party the following weekend, but he is determined to succeed this time and he wants to have a better quality of life when he is older.
You might be looking at this example and thinking that he has to lose the weight, his doctor told him to.
But that isn’t the reason he is determined to succeed.
John is determined to succeed because he knows what his ”why?” is.
His “why?” is, he wants to improve his health. He doesn’t want to become diabetic and have a list of health problems when he gets older.
John doesn’t want to die.
Now this is an extreme case, and not everyone will have such a strong reason for them to achieve their goals.
How then do we find our “why?”
You have to ask yourself that very question.
You have to find out what your actual “why?”is.
Wanting to lose 2 stone is not your “why?”.
Wanting to lose 2 stone because you haven’t had a relationship in over a year is a “why?”.
Wanting to lose 2 stone because you want to be able to play with your kids is your “why?”.
Wanting to lose 2 stone because you are no longer able to walk up the stairs to your top floor apartment is your “why?”.
Your “why?”has to be stronger than all of the things that could crop up to steer you off course.
The pain you currently feel for the situation you are in, has to be greater than the pain you will feel when you give up all of the things that are making you overweight or unhealthy.
If this isn’t the case it will be very easy to lose track of what you want and why you really want it.
So, what is your goal?
Once you have established this, ask yourself why you want it.
Ask it 5 times and delve deep to find your actual answer.
Your actual “why?” will be what will drive you to achieve your goal.
It will keep you on track no matter what situation or setback crops up.
And remember that your “why?” is your “why?”
It is a personal choice and you shouldn’t let anyone try and influence your choice because
It will lead to your success.
