Letterkenny Rugby U-15 girls have been invited to play at Donneybrooke at half time when the Ireland Ladies take on the ladies of Wales on Feb 6th.
They will represent Ulster against Connaught team Ballinasloe. This represents lots of hard work both by the team(who only started playing competitive matches this year) and coaches Allen McCrea, Seamus Culhane and James Sparkes.
The girls wll play at halftime in front of an expected 10,000 crowd, indeed the IRFU had to print more tickets when they heard the Letterkenny ladies were coming. The girls will be training hard this week to get everything ready for the big day .
Letterkenny U-15 started playing league matches in November and although they have yet to win a match it won’t be long as both the interest and skill levels are rising dramatically.
The team travelled to Enniskillen with a weakened team this week, but ended up playing on what can only be described as a dung heap and lost 39-0. we are not used to playing on the type of pitches that were common in letterkenny up until 5 years ago. The main thing was they enjoyed the experience and next time they will be a lot wiser. Stars of the show on tackling alone were Emma Curran, Sara Bundescue and Jade Duffy, who brought off one of the most fantastic try saving tackles of the season, when she tracked back 50 yards on a sodden pitch to bring down their flying winger a yard from the line.
WE will assume that this week there will be a much better pitch on which to make their mark. So “We’re all off to Dublin in the Green” this weekend to play our part and support the National Team and Ourselves of course.
The Under 18 team were to make their mark this weeek-end but due to circumstances beyond our control, they will have to wait a couple of weeks.
