A cycle in honour of a well-known Co Donegal man has helped raised much-needed supplies for the children’s ward at Letterkenny General Hospital.
Each year since September 2011 following the sad passing of Damien Hunter, his family and friends have held a cycle in his honour.
Last year more than 100 riders of all levels took part.
Damien’s brother Mark explained “As I have an interest in cycling we decided it would be nice to hold a leisure cycle in memory of Damien and at the same time raising money for the local children’s ward at Letterkenny University Hospital.
“The cycle takes place September/October each year since then and is aimed at all level of cyclists. It has gone from strength to strength since 2011 and last year we had over 100 riders taking part.”
The Hunter family own the well-known LK Bikes and this gave the company the chance to donate the money raised to help the kids of children’s ward.
And in recent days the fruits of the latest cycle in memory of Damien made their way to the hospital.
Among the treasure-chest of goodies were toys, games, dvd players, dvds and loads of clothes, pjamas, dummies and even toothbrushes!
“It was a massive success and just a great feeling to hand it over all the supplies to the staff nurses,” added Mark.
