SINGER Daniel O’Donnell has paid tribute to veteran broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan.
Sir Terry died this morning at the age of 77 following a short but brave battle against the ravages of cancer.
Daniel said: “I was deeply saddened to hear this morning of the passing of Sir Terry Wogan.
“He was such a lovely man and helped me greatly in the early days of my career.
“The last time I was on the radio with him was October and as always it was a pleasure.
“Thinking of his wife and all his family at this sad time.
“He will be greatly missed, may he rest in peace.”
Sir Terry last broadcast on radio in November before doctors told him to step back due to his health.
They also pulled him from presenting the BBC’s Children in Need the same month.
The news of Sir Terry’s death was announced by his sorrowing family this morning.
In a statement, they said: “Sir Terry Wogan died today after a short but brave battle with cancer.
“He passed away surrounded by his family. While we understand he will be missed by many, the family ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”
