A young Glenswilly girl is being tipped as ‘one to watch’ in the art world.
Erin Sweeney has been praised after her recent entry to the Sightsavers Junior Painters of the Year Awards.
Erin, who attends Glenswilly NS, was hailed for her painting ‘I image the world’ and was chosen as the winner in the regional 5th/6th class category.
Thousands of children from more than 200 primary schools across the country entered the competition.
Erin is one of the 15 finalists chosen to have their painting displayed at an awards ceremony in Dublin in early April where the overall national winners will be announced.
She will receive a special regional prize from sponsor ReCreate Ireland in recognition of her amazing achievement.
Headmaster of Glenswilly NS, Mr Joseph Gallinagh said the school was very proud of Erin’s achievement.
Parents Frankie and Ayleen say they are extremely happy and proud of their daughter Erin.
“We see her efforts every day in our house with paper, pencils and paints and herself happily drawing away. A Big thanks to all the teachers in Glenswilly National School for their continued support, especially Ms Geraldine Galligan,” they said.
