CRIME ALERT: Gardaí have warned people to be vigilant – as another scam operation is currently being rolled out across Donegal.
A number of residents in Donegal have already been caught out by the con-artists, and have lost hundreds of euro in the process.
The e-mails being sent out claim to be sent from The Revenue – and they’re informing people they’re owed hundreds of euro in tax-back.
However, all is not as it seems – and unfortunately for a number of people they’ve been duped into granting their bank details to the scammers.
The scammers requested their bank details so they could transfer the money they were supposedly owed in tax-back into their accounts.
However, the opposite was done – and hundreds have been withdrawn from accounts – and Gardaí are appealing to people to be cautious at all times.
This latest scam comes just a number of days after a fake phone scam which was draining credit from people’s phones and increasing their phone bills.
Gardaí have said anybody who receives an e-mail from an Irish Government Agency – like The Revenue should always contact that authority directly before engaging further with them via e-mail.
