POLITICS: A huge crowd turned out at the official launch of Pat The Cope Gallagher’s General Election campaign last night in Dungloe.
Close to 300 people packed the Parochial Hall in Dungloe yesterday evening as the Fianna Fáil stalwart attempts to throw his hat back into the political arena.
Gallagher has enjoyed a hugely decorated career as a politician – and was first elected to the Dáil in 1981.
Gallagher retained his seat until 1997 when he decided to retire from the Dáil.
He successful returned to the Dáil in the General Election in 2002 – and retained his seat until 2009.
In 2009, Gallagher was elected as an MEP and served in that capacity until 2014 when he narrowly lost his seat to Marian Harkin.
However, Gallagher now wants to return to domestic politics – and he passionately addressed the crowd of his ambitions if he’s re-elected to the Dáil.
Gallagher’s wife Ann also launched his new website www.patthecope.com
Speaking at the meeting, Gallagher expressed his deep appreciation to those who attended the launch.
While he also acknowledged those who sent messages of support – and those who were unable to make the launch.
Gallagher assured the meeting that he would re-open a full-time active constituency office which would be available to all – as it had been since he first opened an office in 1981.
