Pat ‘The Cope’ Gallagher has announced that community hospitals in Donegal will receive €5.6 million for refurbishment works.
General Election candidate Pat ‘The Cope’ Gallagher has revealed that local community hospitals in Donegal are set to undergo major refurbishments.
Gallagher announced earlier this afternoon that an allocation of €5.6 million euro has been approved and will be spent for refurbishment works at Dungloe, Falcarragh and Killybegs Community Hospitals.
Former MEP Gallagher told Donegal Daily, “Dungloe has been approved for an expenditure of €2.6 million – with works to be completed by 2020.
Falcarragh will receive €2.8 million – with works to be completed by 2018.
While Killybegs have been granted €444,000 – with works to be completed by the end of 2016.”
The refurbishment works will bring the Hospitals up to Current Department of Health standards.
The design teams have been appointed, and designs are progressing with a view to going to tender.
Gallagher is a former Minister of State in the Department of Health, and he has welcomed this news – and confirmed that if elected he will do his utmost to bring forward the completion dates for Dungloe and Falcarragh
Gallagher added, “This is good news for all three catchment areas and augers well for the long-term future.
“I am deeply disappointed to learn that the Government has plans to replace St Josephs (Stranorlar),Lifford and Ramelton Community Hospitals.
“This proposal must be rejected out of hand.
“I will refrain from commenting further until I receive clarification from Minister Kathleen Lynch.
“I have already been in contact with her office expressing my concern and requesting immediate clarification.”
