INDEPENDENT councillor Niamh Kennedy has defended her position in the council today to vote to move on in the John O’Donnell controversy – because there is no law they can use to remove the Kilmacrennan man.
“To state clearly I do not condone Cllr O’Donnells actions,” said Cllr Kennedy.
“I am stating my position clearly. I am not one of the councillors which Cllr O’Donnell alluded to in the RTE programme.
“I stated clearly on a number of occasions that fact.
“I have made it clear that I am anti-wind turbines in Donegal. For the record according to law there is no specific provision within local Government Legislation to provide for the removal of a member from committees to which he or she is appointed.
“We cannot remove Cllr O Donnell. Due process must be adhered to. I like many other councillors want to get on with our work and move forward to do what we are elected to do. Enough unnecessary stage playing and grandstanding has taken place already.”
