A MAN was detained by gardaí after an early morning search involving the Sligo 118 rescue helicopter.
Gardai became concerned when a man stopped by officers near the Red Hughs GAA ground in Killygordon ran away from the scene.
They feared the man had entered a river and the Coast Guard chopper was summonsed to help in the search.
Gardai in six patrol vehicles rushed to the scene, fearing the man may be in danger.
The incident quickly became a search and rescue operation with the helicopter using search lights in a bid to locate the man.
The man was found in a nearby field after 2pm.
He was unhurt in the incident.
He was taken from the scene and questioned by gardai before being released.
The Coast Guard helicopter returned to its base in Sligo once the man was found.
